
New Year’s Eve Bites: Tempeh Skewers for Every Taste

These Golden Tempeh Skewers are a crowd-pleasing New Year’s Eve bite — simple, versatile, and full of vibrant flavour. Start with a golden tempeh base and finish with one of three festive toppings: herb relish, pomegranate-sesame crunch, or peanut + vegan caramel. Perfect for any celebration.
INGREDIENTS
For the Golden Tempeh Skewers (your base recipe)

1 block Noble Bean Tempeh (240 g), cut into 1 inch sticks

2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari

1 tbsp maple syrup

1 tbsp oil
-
1 tsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

½ tsp garlic powder

Wooden skewers
Note for dessert versions:
Leave out the garlic powder and keep the marinade neutral. This creates the perfect base for sweet toppings like caramel or fruit.

TOPPING #1: Green Herb Relish

¼ cup finely chopped parsley or cilantro

1 small shallot, finely minced

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp lime or lemon juice

Salt & pepper

TOPPING #2: Pomegranate, Microgreens & Sesame

¼–â…“ cup fresh pomegranate seeds

Microgreens (sunflower, radish, etc.)

½ tsp toasted sesame seeds

TOPPING #3: Peanut Crunch + Vegan Caramel Drizzle

2–3 tbsp salted caramel sauce (store-bought works)

1 tbsp crushed roasted peanuts

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the tempeh: Slice the tempeh into long strips and thread onto skewers.
2. Marinade: In a bowl, whisk soy sauce, oil, maple syrup, vinegar, and garlic powder. Place the tempeh skewers in the marinade.
Let sit 30 minutes (or longer for deeper flavour).
3. Cook: Heat a skillet with a little oil. Sear skewers 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and caramelized.
4. Top with one of the 3 toppings below.
TOPPING #1: Green Herb Relish
1. Mix herbs, onion, oil, citrus, and seasoning.
2. Spoon a small amount on each warm skewer.
3. Garnish with microgreens if desired.
TOPPING #2: Pomegranate, Microgreens & Sesame
1. Top each skewer with a spoonful of pomegranate seeds.
2. Add a few microgreens for freshness.
3. Sprinkle with sesame seeds to finish.
TOPPING #3: Peanut Crunch + Vegan Caramel Drizzle
1. Warm salted caramel in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
2. Drizzle over the tempeh
3. Add crunch: Sprinkle crushed roasted peanuts on top so they adhere to the caramel.
